A series of reports in the Russian news media suggest that Russia is preparing for a potential war with the Cascadia island chain.
The first report from Russian news agency RIA Novosti quotes a top military source as saying that “all the preparations are on the table”.
The sources cited the possibility of a Russian-Caucasian conflict, which could lead to the US or other Nato allies taking control of the strategically important islands.
“All the preparations for the Caffa Sea conflict are on paper.
We are ready for it.
There is a real possibility that it will happen, the sources told RIA.
The source was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying “the US, Britain and the others are going to be at war in the Caucasia region” and that Moscow was “ready to fight them”.”
If we do not act, we risk a new cold war in Europe,” the source added.
The next report from RIA is from Russia’s Kommersant newspaper, which says that “a military scenario” has been “discussed in the US” and Russia is “ready for a war with America”.
The article adds that “the Russian air force has been ordered to use its missiles in the air”.
Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu said on Tuesday that “an air strike” on US bases in Japan could take place in the next few days, although he did not give further details.
On Thursday, the US said it was preparing a new air defence system that would be used to defend the US homeland against an attack by North Korea.
North Korea said it had carried out a nuclear test on Monday, but said it would not respond to any aggression by the US.
